In January 2023 it was announced that a biopic of the pop king Michael Jackson would be made starring Jaafar Jackson, that would release in the year 2025. The biopic will be simply titled ‘Michael’.

Michael Jackson’s biopic would be produced by Graham King (also the producer of Oscar winning Bohemian Rhapsody), John Branca and John McClain. Biopic would be written by John Logan.

 And the directorial mind behind the biopic would be of Antonie Fuqua who is known for The Equalizer trilogy, Southpaw etc. About this new project on the pop legend, Fuqua expressed his excitement in talks with The Hollywood reporter, where he said,

“For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson. I was influenced to make music videos by watching his work — the first Black artist to play in heavy rotation on MTV. His music and those images are part of my worldview, and the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible.”

The filming of the biopic as per the sources would begin from January 22, 2024.

Who will be Playing the Role of Michael Jackson in his Biopic?

Michael Jackson’s 27 year old nephew Jaafar Jackson is said to play the role of his uncle Michael in his biopic. Jaafar is the son of Michael’s brother Jermaine Jackson.

To showcase young Jackson, 9 year old Juliana KrueValdi has been cased. But the main cast Jaafar has been casted after a worldwide casting, to which producer Graham King said in talks with the Variety, “It was clear that he is the only person to take on this role.”

King added that he was “blown away by the way he organically personifies the spirit and personality of Michael” and was “beyond thrilled that he has come on board to portray his uncle and cannot wait for the world to see him on the big screen as Michael Jackson.”

What will be the Content of Michael Jackson Biopic?

The biopic will cover all aspects of Jackson’s life including as many controversies of Jackson’s life, allegations of child abuse etc. As per the film’s official synopsis, “Michael will bring audiences a riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became the King of Pop.”

“The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances,” the statement continues. “As never before, audiences will experience an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.”

Michael Jackson’s Family’s Reaction on the Biopic

Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine said that Jaafar ‘embodies’ her son. “It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
